Instructions

  • PREPAINT YOUR GLASS JAR- You want to start with a PRE PAINTED mason jar. I always use chalk paint to paint my jars. It goes on nice and even and has great coverage. You can use regular acrylic paint but you will not get the same coverage as the jar above. Also, any sized jar will work for this DIY craft.
  • CUT OUT HORN, EARS, AND EYE FEATURES – Using your Cricut, or another cutting machine, cut the horn and ears from cardstock. We chose white and pink for the ears and you can use an already glittered cardstock for the horn OR you can use white cardstock then glitter it later. We did both versions and loved how each unicorn jar turned out.
Use black matte finish vinyl to cut out the eyelashes. You can use glossy vinyl but we thought the matte finish looked better.
Set these features to the side.
  • ADD GLITTER- Using a paintbrush paint a thick layer of mod podge on the bottom of your jar. Paint up about 3" from the bottom of the jar. Place a piece of paper under your jar and sprinkle it with glitter. The paper will catch a good amount of glitter that doesn’t make it on the jar so you can reuse it. You’ll want to work quickly so your mod podge doesn’t dry before you get done glittering. Allow the unicorn jar to dry before moving on to step 4.
  • PAINT ON CHEEKS- A round foam dabber is PERFECT for painting cheeks onto this unicorn mason jar craft. Dip half of your round sponge dabber into pink paint and the other half into white paint. When you apply the paint you will make a slight twist motion to get the swirly effect.
  • ADD FEATURES:
UNICORN EYELASHES- After you paint is COMPLETELY DRY you can add the eye decals. Vinyl will NOT  stick to wet paint. Remove the white paper backing first, for best results use clear transfer tape to apply to your unicorn mason jar. Give it a good rub with your thumb or a plastic card then slowly roll the clear transfer tape off.
UNICORN HORN- Decorate the unicorn horn if you would like prior to gluing to the unicorn mason jar. Then, use hot glue to attach to the lip of the jar above the middle of the eyes
UNICORN EARS- Use mod podge to glue the small earpieces to the middle of the larger earpieces. Then attach an ear to each side of the horn.
RHINESTONE UNICORN CROWN- Lastly, use a glue gun to make a crown of rhinestones around the base of the horn and ears.
